The safer lorry program launched by Transport for London on September 1st. All vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes must comply with the scheme’s requirement that they be equipped with side guards and class V and VI mirrors.
A £1000 fine is imposed for violations of the program, which is enforced by the DVSA (Drivers and Vehicle Standards Agency), the police, and a TFL-funded HGV Taskforce. The appropriate traffic commissioner will also be tasked with investigating the operator.
Within the boundary zones, the program is in place constantly, and any cars not equipped with the necessary safety equipment will be prohibited from driving on all Greater London roads.
