The DSA (Driving Standards Agency) and VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) merged on April 2, 2014, resulting in the formation of the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency).

The plan to unite the two agencies was debated before it was put into effect this week. This follows a consultation last year on how the government may reform its motoring services agencies to lower costs while increasing customer service.

The two agencies will integrate their driving services, including driving exams, passenger and goods vehicle testing, operator licensing, and MOT inspection oversight.

“By bringing testing and standards services into a single agency, we will make life easier for customers by putting them at the heart of the services they rely on and providing a more coherent approach to service delivery,” said Alastair Peoples, chief executive of the DVSA.

The two previous organizations were already working to improve consumer convenience and flexibility for driver and vehicle testing. The DVSA will keep up with consumer demands and provide services in a way that is both practical and economical.
